There are many things we can do to preven fingernail and toenail fungus issues.
Public Areas and Foot Wear
Like any other fungus it can spread through public areas like saunas, hot
tubs, swimming pools, showers etc. These areas pose an increase the risk of
toenail fungal infection as well as the types of shoes or boots you wear. Let
your feet breath after exercise or a hard days work.
Nail Polish
Wearing nail polish can actually encourage fungal growth which then leads to a
finger or toenail fungus infection. This is because the polish traps moisture
under the nail, which prevents evaporation and creates a damp environment for
the fungus to grow. Keep in mind fungus needs a dark damp place to grow
and under the fingernail is perfect. If you have a nail fungus problem stop
using fingernail polish and start using a nail fungus treatment.
Nail Maintenance
You can help prevent finger and toenail fungal infection by keeping your
fingernails and toenails trimmed. This becomes important because with longer
nails you can bend a finger nail back or increase the risk of stubbing your
toe. When this happens the nail is lifted off the nail bed allowing a passage
for the fungus to enter the nail and grow. When trimming the nail try to trim
nails straight across and lightly file down the sharp edges. If you dig too deep,
or break the skin this can lead to an infection. After you bathe or shower is
the best time to trim your because your nails are softer.
Keeping Clean and Dry
Do not share towels, washcloths, shoes, or other personal items with anyone
regardless of whether you know or suspect that they have a toenail fungal
infection or any other communicable disease.
Then, there is the issue of washing and drying your feet thoroughly. Since
it is a known fact that toenail fungi thrive in warm, damp environments, it is
best to keep your feet dry. That will make it very difficult for the fungus to
survive. When you dry your feet, use a towel to vigorously wipe the area
around the feet and toes to remove dead skin and improve circulation.
Most people like to take off their socks and go bare as much as possible on
a daily basis. You should use a nail brush when you clean your feet and
toenails to scrub away dirt, dead fungus and nail tissue. When doing this, pay
particular attention to cleaning underneath the toenails.
Using Outside Treatment
When these preventative measures do not seem to work
on both finger and toe nail fungal infection, be sure and try a proven nail fungal treatment like Claripro or Zetaclear. There are only a few really good fungus treatment options that work without a prescription and these normally work
more effectively than prescription medications and without the side effects
like liver
